SOUTH ASIAN LITERARY PRIZE.


Writer and academic Amit Chaudhuri's novel The Immortals is among the six books shortlisted for a new major $50,000 literary prize - the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature. Other authors and their books that shortlisted are:Pakistani novelists Musharraf Ali Farooqui - The Story of a Widow; H.M. Naqvi - Home Boy; Manju Kapur - The immigrant; Neel Mukherjee - A Life Apart and U.S based Tania James - Atlas of Unknowns.China unveils world's fastest train. Fastest bullet train - the Home built CRH380, with an average speed of 350km per hour, linking between Shanghai and Hangzhou has been launched by China Government.

UID numbers soon for schoolchildren. Human Resource Development Ministry and UIDAI sign MoU. All school children will soon have unique identification numbers (UID), which will help in tracking their movement in educational institutions and academic records. The Minister for Human resources Development is Mr.Kapil Sibal and Chairman of Unique identification Authority of India is Mr. Nandan Nilekani.

Think Tank Initiative - is an ambitious SouthAsia-wide effort to increase policy development capacity in the subcontinent. It was launched in NewDelhi . With the belief in the concept of " Outstanding research can shape better policy" - the donors for this project, contributing a total pool of $110 million globally, include the Hewlett and Gates Foundations and the British and Dutch governments. In India, TTI support has been extended to: the Centre for study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), Bangalore; the Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability (CBGA), Delhi: the Centre for Policy Research (CPR), Delhi; the Centre for the study of Developing Societies (CSDS), Delhi; the Indian Institute of Dalit Studies (IIDS), Delhi; the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG), Delhi; the Institute of Rural Management (IRMA), Anand; the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), Delhi; and the Public Affairs Centre (PAC), Bangalore.
