Agni -II Plus.


DRDO Director General V.K. Saraswat has informed that Agni-II Plus, a modified version of the Agni-II strategic missile would be launched in 2011.

**************India was elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council with an overwhelming number of countries endorsing its sole candidature from the Asian Groups. In polling for 10 seats that took place at the U.N. head quarters in NewYork, India received the highest number of votes - 187 out of 192- among all countries in the fray. This is the 7th time that India is getting this position.

GRAPHENE.



GRAPHENE is an ultimately, thin, mechnically very strong, transparent, flexible conductor, that can be used in touch screens, light panels and solar cells. Graphene, for whose discovery the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to researchers Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov of the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. The very method of producing this new two-dimensional crystal, a single layer version of the graphite crystals that constitute the 'lead' in pencils, using adhesive tape to separate the various layers, reinforces this of the familiar.

COMMON WEALTH GAMES -2010. It TAKES PLACE IN ONCE IN EVERY FOUR YEARS. Members of the Commonwealth of Nations come together to participate in this games.
The first time this event took place was in 1930. It was then known as the British Empire Games and 11 nations participated. It has been held regularly since then, with just one interruption in 1942, during World War II. There are currently 54 members of the Commonwealth of Nations, and 71 teams participated in the Games. The four Home Nations of United Kingdom - England,Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland - sent separate teams to the games and individual teams wee also sent from the British Crown dependencies of Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man (unlike at the Olympic Games, where the combined "Great Britain" team represents all four home nations and the crown dependencies).

Australia leads the table by getting the first position by accumulating: 74Gold, 55Silver, 48Bronze and total 177. India bagged the second position by accumulating 38G,27S,36B and total 101.
England Third position: 37G,59S,46B and Total 142. Canada 4th Position 26G,17S,32B and Total 75. South Africa 5th position: 12G,11S,10B and Total 33. Pakistan gained the 17th position by winning only 2G,1S,2B and Total of 5 medals.

The 2014 Common Wealth Games is to be conducted at Glasco. Where the event of archery will not be conducted Archery was introduced 28years back in 1982 at Brisbane CW Games.

DIVYA AJITHKUMAR - SWORD OF HONOUR


Divya Ajithkumar - of Chennai became the First Woman in the history of the Indian Army to receive the coveted 'SWORD OF HONOUR' Prize, which is awarded to the best cadet. She received this prize in the function on completion of their training at the Officers' Training Academy (OTA) in St. Thomas Mount, Chennai.


GM - Genetically Modified Mosquitoes - have been designed by Malaysia to combat Dengue Fever. Aedes Aegypti Mosquitoes - the female of which spread DENGUE from homes and workplaces. In the first experiment of its kind in Asia, 2000 - 3000 male Aedes Mosquitoes are to be released in two Malaysian states. The Larvae of this Mosquito will only die if the environment is free of Tetracycline - an antibiotic commonly used in medical and veterinary purpose.

Guiness record : 50,300 Saplings planted in an hour - LEH, Ladakh - The Cold desert - has entered the Guiness BooK of World Records after 50,300 sapling s were planted at a village here in less than an hour by 9,000 volunteers undera drive supported by Buddhist Monks to mark the 'green' Common wealth games in Delhi.
The earlier record was held by Peru, where 40,000 saplings were planted in 60 minutes by 8,000 volunteers.
